Q: What is microblading?
Microblading is an advanced form of semi-permanent makeup that mimics the look of natural hair strokes. The treatment is performed using a handheld tool that uses fine needles to deposit pigment under the skin, creating crisp strokes that match the look of natural eyebrow hair.
Q: Is microblading safe for anyone?
Generally, it’s very safe. However, there are certain restrictions that would make a candidate unsuitable for this procedure. In such cases, please consult with your doctor before proceeding. For more info, please see DISCLOSURE section.
Q: Does it hurt?
A: Microblading or semi-permanent makeup requires breaking the top layer of your epidermis in order to deposit pigment into your skin. A numbing topical cream is applied to help minimize discomfort. Some clients find the procedure a little uncomfortable while others report no discomfort at all. The area can be a little sore for the first few hours after the procedure and tender to touch for a couple days.
Q: How long does microblading last?
- Depends on a number of factors such as lifestyle, skin type (normal/oily/dry), age, and after care but generally, microblading will last between 12 to 18 months, micro-shading between 18 months to 3 years, and ombre between 2 to 3 years.
- Semi-permanent makeups generally last from 1-3 years, but it will fade over time due to exposure to the sun and other elements. Returning for a touch up every 12-18 months is common to keep it looking fresh.
Q: How should you prepare for your microblading session?
- Avoid booking during your menstrual cycle as it can increase your pain
- No waxing or tanning or tinting 3 days before.
- Arrive with no makeup for your appointment
- Do not drink alcohol or caffeine 24 hours prior to your appointment
- Do not take aspirin, vitamin E, ibuprofen, Niacin, or other blood thinners 72 hours prior to your appointment
- Botox should be done 2 weeks before as brows are created based on your botox features
Q: What’s the appointment process?
There are 4 steps to the appointment process:
- Discussion – Discuss the overall vision for your eyebrows and analyze your bone structure and facial features. Take “before” photo.
- Create Template – Measure and draw eyebrow template. Together we’ll review and modify the design until we create the perfect shape you love. Next, a topical anesthetic cream is used to minimize discomfort.
- Microblading Process – The microblading tool is used strategically to redesign your eyebrows.
- Review and follow up – Take photos and discuss the appropriate aftercare. Schedule your follow-up appointment which will be at least 4 weeks out. A touch-up is necessary to perfect the brows for your final “wow“ result!
Q: What to expect on first brow session?
- Plan 2.5 hours for your first session, your desired brow shape will be designed based on your bone structure, face shape and style preference.
- We first discuss the type of shape you prefer. Measurements are done to ensure that lengths and shapes actually fit your facial structure. If the result you are looking for is possible, I will begin to shape it out. If not, I’ll explain why it wouldn’t work and what will work.
- After drawing one brow, we evaluate the shape and discuss your thoughts and changes if needed. After initial approval, I’ll begin on the second brow. Once both brows are drawn, you will do a last check again in the mirror. If you’re not satisfied, we will continue to tweak it until you are satisfied and approve the shape. We do not begin working until I get approval for the shape and color. This is a very important part of the process.
- Once shape and pigment color are determined, a numbing cream is applied to the area. Using a handheld device, small “hair” strokes will be drawn on the skin, depositing pigment and creating the appearance of real, natural hair and/or shading effect. The color of your new brows is determined by skin complexion and undertone of the skin. The color will soften in 2-3 weeks.
Q: What to expect on second brow session?
- The second session is required to finalize the brow treatment and will take approximately 90 minutes. It is typical for some “hairs” to shed during the healing process, the second session replaces any hairs that have not healed into the skin.
- During the second session, color, thickness and strokes may also be adjusted. Pigment heals differently for everyone, and this second appointment allows for final touches to your brow color and shape.
- Your treatment is not complete until you have your second appointment. Following your second session you should not need a touch-up for a year.
Q: Why do I need a touch-up?
Your face is a special body part with constant exposure to elements such as the sun and other outside elements, facial products and other cosmetic procedures. Over time, this causes the microblading pigment to fade. Thus, this procedure is a semi-permanent makeup process. The first touch is included. After that, you normally won’t need another touch-up until 1 yr later.
Q: What can I do to help maintain the treatment?
Your microblading treatment will last longer if you apply sun block daily and avoid heavily abrasive facial treatments. Inform your skin professional that you have permanent makeup so they can avoid products in that area.
Q: How long does the microblading appointment take?
On average, a microblading appointment lasts about 2-3 hours from start to finish.
Q: How long does it take to heal?
In the first 14 days, you’ll need to avoid getting them wet, working out or wearing brow makeup. It takes about 30 days to completely heal, in which time you may experience mild scabbing.
